The book is a true story about a
World War I draft dodger hiding out
on an island off the B.C. Coast.
The author goes searching for him
in the 1980's and checks for leads
that carry him into a bizarre yet
possibly fruitless theory about the
Mad Trapper.

From the back of the book

Thore asked him if he could at least write his mother for she was desperate to hear from him. Thore
provided him with stationary, pens, and stamps. Thore begged an unresponsive Sig to write his
mother. The meeting left but one impression on Thore's mind; Sig was all right, except for the
obsessive delusion that the authorities were after him. When my grandfather ended his story about
Sigvald his voice cracked with sadness, "He never did write his mother."

It was a family mystery passed from an aging grandfather to a curious grandson. It was a thought
that would lie dormant for years until it became a catalyst to ruin a honeymoon and coin an idea that
at first seemed embarrassing to admit.

Was it possible that Sigvald, in a state of loneliness and desperation took up the alias of Albert
Johnson and became the fugitive at the heart Canada's most famous manhunt?
While in Prince Rupert, Sigvald traded
with a Chinese man. So far our
research indicates Bon Quen Mah was
likely this trader, the last man Sigvald
trusted. Was
this the last man the Mad
Trapper trusted?
See pictures of Sigvald on flickr.com here.
